As their name suggests, Seagrass carpets are created using a strong grass that’s typically grown in coastal areas, generally found on river banks or grown in flooded meadows in many tropical countries. Depending on when harvested, Seagrass carpets can vary in the weight of the grass used, and as you see from our choice you have the option of ‘Panama’ or ‘Fine Panama’ and this reflects the thickness of the individual strips of grass used.
Our Seagrass carpets and floor coverings are extremely hardwearing and suitable for use in high-traffic areas, often found in hallways, modern dining rooms and even kitchens or bathrooms due to their resilience to moisture and staining. Its waxy surface resists moisture, but also any dying process, so most Seagrass carpets are offered in a natural colour scheme exactly as it was when harvested. These natural hues make Seagrass a favourite with interior designers throughout the UK and it can be the perfect complement in a room that’s been stripped back to display bare brick, stone or timber.
To get an idea of how Seagrass carpets feel, imagine rush matting but with a finer weave. The smooth feel of the individual strands makes it comfortable for walking on, but also makes it less suitable for use on stairs due to this same smooth finish - reducing traction in areas where friction is required. Seagrass can be used to great effect and many of our customers love the traditional look and feel of this remarkable grass - order a sample today and see for yourself.
